weekend

Over the weekend, we traveled east to attend the wedding of my dear friend from college, Brooke. We stayed with my parents - the wedding was near Allentown, about 1 1/2 hrs from Lancaster. It was a gorgeous ceremony that was held outside - thankfully the rain held off!

Since the wedding wasn't until 4:00, my mom and I took Liam to the railroad to watch the trains on Saturday morning. He was loving all the sights and sounds of the trains, and was commenting on everything he saw.

We decided to ride Cagney, a real, miniature steam train that pulls cars. This thing is hilarious. It has a tiny door with a firebox to shovel coal into, and all the other workings of a bigger steam train. We purchased tickets, but it took forever to get on because the driver had to add coal, get the steam going, check the parts, and manually turn it around (and all the cars) because it was pulled in from the riders before us.

We rode for a little while, and then we reached the end of the track and stopped. The driver had to unhitch the engine from the cars, leaving us abandoned on the track. Then he traveled ahead to turn it around, pick us back up, and head back! I seriously thought we might be late for the wedding - I wasn't aware how involved the simple kiddie ride was!

Since she didn't join us at the trains, here's Avery earlier that morning:

Bo went back to Pittsburgh on Sunday, but I stayed through Tuesday, when my mom brought the kids and me back. She stayed here until today, just for fun and for some help. Before we left Strasburg, though, we took our traditional walk to the square for ice cream at the Creamery. My mom found a Sit n Stand stroller at a yard sale for 15 bucks, so I didn't even have to bring my double stroller. It worked out really well to transport both kids.

It was a great weekend and week! Only two things to work on: Avery cried all 4 hours of the ride back, and Liam is all over the place emotionally, thanks to his cold from last week. Here's hoping those both get better soon!
